Even though she doesn’t look it, she really is beside herself! She will one day be blessed by Benedict, that I can promise you.
This is going to be bigger than rathergate.
Ebay user midcenturymodron put up for auction on Ebay a ticket stub from the 1979 NYC papal mass supposedly signed by JP2 himself. Now I’m not one to doubt the authenticity of something from the “christopher Chase galleries”, especially if it’s from an ebayer with a 100% positive approval rating, but there are quite a few things about this stub that make me question it’s authenticity.
Christopher chase galleries is presently offering for a client of ours a RARE 1979 Yankee Stadium Papal Mass ticket stub signed and inscribed by Pope John Paul II. The inscription reads, “Peter, Thank you for your professional assistance at Yankee Stadium Oct. 1/2, 1979. Your number one in your field.” It is then initialed by the Pope himself.

I know I’m not crazy, this entire stub seems fishy, and not in a fisher of men sort of way. Firstly, and most obviously is the strange grammar mistake the holy father supposedly make. “Your number one” Your? Would someone as highly educated and fluent in over six languages make such a basic mistake?
Secondly, why would the holy father date this? If it was what it was supposed to be, why would it need to have been dated? The date was on there already. It’s just an odd little thing to put on there that almost seems like it was some sort of not so subtle attempt at authenticating it.
And what about that signature?

It’s not really a signature, more of set of initials. Although, JP2 always, as far as everything I’ve seen, signs joannes paulus II. Even if you were to convince someone that this was just shorthand, and in a note form, you’d have to get around the fact that he forms his letters in completely different ways than what’s on the ticket stub.

Check out the “P”. The top loop of the ‘P’ on the ticket stub curves to the left, while the ‘P’ on the known jp2 signature curves to the right. Furthermore, the pope makes the roman symbol for ’2′ completely different in the signatures that I’ve seen.
So am I crazy?
