We were on our way to Indianpolis and Ruby was shrieking beyond belief. I figured out that giving her post it notes to eat would calm her down. The only problem is that they quickly disentigrate and start to fall off into her mouth. Luckily I had an entire pack and was able to quickly switch out chewed up notes for fresh ones. Probably not too healthy, but the screaming can drive you insane.
